Young Linguists Shine at DAS Exam Awards

The journey never stops for the young German learners in WA as they convene for another year of “DAS Exam” (Deutsch- Australische Sprachprüfung) Awards Presentation. The Exam has been offered to students for around 60 years and is part of the WAGBA cultural support program. As such the “DAS Exam” is supported by the Association financially and by means of contribution to the annual award ceremonies.

On Tuesday 29. October WAGBA had the pleasure of joining the celebration of the success of students in Western Australia, as the recipients of the first, second and third prize winners were awarded for their outstanding performance in German language learning. The event was held at the Rhein Donau Club in Myaree and attended by around 100 students ranging from Years 5 to 9, their parents, principals and their teachers in the Perth metropolitan area. WAGBA President Stephan W Kirsch and Committee Member Elke Kirsch were also graciously invited to the award ceremony.

The event was organised and hosted by TAGWA (Teachers' Association of German in Western Australia) and proudly supported by the Department of Education, the Rhein Donau Club, the Honorary Consulate of Federal Republic of Germany, and the West Australian-German Business Association (WAGBA).

In their speeches, Kim Giddens — Member for Bateman, representing Minister Tony Buti MLA, Dr Gabriele Maluga the Honorary Consul of the Federal Republic of Germany and WAGBA President Stephan W Kirsch outlined the importance of learning foreign languages as a vehicle for bi-lingual bonding, cultural integration, understanding and creation of common values and many more aspects for both social life and personal development.

The incredible atmosphere amongst all students, their families, teachers, and other guests in the celebration of the students’ achievements was a wonderful testament to the efforts to promote German language learning at participating schools. WAGBA looks forward to celebrating the achievements of the next batch of outstanding students in 2025!
