Celebrating Spring with Tradition

WAGBA members and friends gathered on the evening of 30th October to celebrate spring with “ein Deutsches Spargelessen,” otherwise known as the German White Asparagus Dinner, at Juniper & Bay in Como. Attended by around 40 guests, the dinner was graced by the presence of the former Honorary Consul of the Federal Republic of Germany and former WAGBA President, Bill Hassell AM, and his wife, Sue Hassell, as well as Torsten Ketelsen OAM, as esteemed guests. The event provided an excellent networking opportunity in a relaxed setting for all attendees with ties to Western Australian-German businesses.

The evening commenced with a warm welcome and introduction by WAGBA President Stephan Kirsch, followed by a menu presentation by Juniper & Bay Owner and Chef, Soeren Koberstein. In his speech, Soeren shared a brief but informative background on the cultivation and culinary significance of white asparagus. WAGBA members and guests were then treated to a delectable three-course meal, with the main course being the highlight: “1 Pfund Spargel” (1 Pound of White Asparagus), traditionally served with a side of potatoes, veal schnitzel, and Hollandaise dressing. The dish received high praise from many guests.

The evening was filled with a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere as WAGBA members and friends mingled, sharing stories and eagerly discussing their plans for the festive Christmas season ahead. A strong sense of community spirit could be felt throughout the restaurant as guests cherished the opportunity to strengthen relationships and forge new ones in such a warm and engaging setting.
